This new build, low energy dwelling, built using clay blocks, replaced an existing barn in the South Hams. A Class Q proposal was replaced with planning permission for a larger, more contemporary dwelling. Being totally off-grid, the house is highly insulated and airtight, for minimal running costs and energy demands. Clay bocks have an excellent combination of insulation and thermal mass, they are made from a natural, renewable material and are easy to build with.
