Dovecote Barn

Converted in 2002, this grade II listed barn had cramped and dark ground floor rooms and corridor, poor visual connection between spaces and no decent entrance space. Removing ground floor walls to make an open plan kitchen and dining space, and creating a new open riser staircase allowed natural light into the spaces as well as views and interaction between kitchen and upstairs, increasing the sense of space, and preventing people downstairs from feeling cut off. A new, simple, timber framed and glazed lobby with lead roof provides a decent entrance, in sympathy with the existing historic barn. HDA was involved with planning and LBC consent through to completion.
